This exhibition of over 70 exceptional prints gives tribute to Wichita artist C.A. Seward (1884-1939). Due to his tireless energies, artistic talents, and plentiful friendships, he helped to establish Wichita as an important national center for print making in the 1920s through 1940s. The exhibition is guest curated by Barbara Thompson, granddaughter of C.A. Seward. The majority of the artwork on loan derives from her expansive and distinguished personal collection. The exhibition coincides with the inaugural C.A. Seward Visiting Print Maker at the School of Art and Design at Wichita State University.

During late spring and early summer, the Lake Afton Public Observatory presents the program, “Black Holes in Space”. Visit the Observatory to learn how astronomers expose the mysteries surrounding these massive gravity wells even though they cannot be directly observed. During the program you will have the opportunity to observe Saturn and its beautiful ring system; a supergiant red star that will probably become a black hole when it dies; a multiple star system; a globular cluster of stars which contains a massive black hole and a galaxy that contains a super-massive black hole at its core. While you are observing these objects, the Observatory staff will talk about the many mysteries surrounding black holes. “Black Holes in Space” will be presented on Friday and Saturday evenings, May 3-4, 10-11, 24-25, 31-June 1, 7-8, 28-29, July 5-6, 26-27, August 2-3, 9-10, 23-24, and 30-31.

This exhibition of over 70 exceptional prints gives tribute to Wichita artist C.A. Seward (1884-1939). Due to his tireless energies, artistic talents, and plentiful friendships, he helped to establish Wichita as an important national center for print making in the 1920s through 1940s. The exhibition is guest curated by Barbara Thompson, granddaughter of C.A. Seward. The majority of the artwork on loan derives from her expansive and distinguished personal collection. During late spring and early summer, the Lake Afton Public Observatory presents the program, “Black Holes in Space”. Visit the Observatory to learn how astronomers expose the mysteries surrounding these massive gravity wells even though they cannot be directly observed. During the program you will have the opportunity to observe Saturn and its beautiful ring system; a supergiant red star that will probably become a black hole when it dies; a multiple star system; a globular cluster of stars which contains a massive black hole and a galaxy that contains a super-massive black hole at its core. While you are observing these objects, the Observatory staff will talk about the many mysteries surrounding black holes. “Black Holes in Space” will be presented on Friday and Saturday evenings, May 3-4, 10-11, 24-25, 31-June 1, 7-8, 28-29, July 5-6, 26-27, August 2-3, 9-10, 23-24, and 30-31.

Visitors to Old Cowtown Museum are used to seeing the Victorian era portrayed true to form, but when Steampunk Day arrives on Saturday June 2, they will experience a re-imagined, more advanced 19th century straight out of a Jules Verne or H.G. Wells novel.
Simply put, Steampunk is Victorian science fiction that includes some influences from turn-of-the century Barnum & Bailey carnivals. During Steampunk Day, several hundreds of Steampunk fans from the four-state area will be strolling Cowtown’s streets dressed in traditional 19th century fashion accessorized with mechanical gadgets, goggles, gears and other pre-modern imaginative technology. The cornerstone of the Steampunk movement is taking modern inventions – the Internet, weaponry, clocks – and re-imagining how they would look had they been created with Victorian technology and materials.

This exhibition of over 70 exceptional prints gives tribute to Wichita artist C.A. Seward (1884-1939). Due to his tireless energies, artistic talents, and plentiful friendships, he helped to establish Wichita as an important national center for print making in the 1920s through 1940s. The exhibition is guest curated by Barbara Thompson, granddaughter of C.A. Seward. The majority of the artwork on loan derives from her expansive and distinguished personal collection. The exhibition coincides with the inaugural C.A. Seward Visiting Print Maker at the School of Art and Design at Wichita State University.
