Wichita Children's Theatre & Dance Center's beginnings date back to 1947. Our mission is to provide the youth of the Wichita area with a year-round schedule of quality educational opportunities that will enrich their lives and foster a participation in, an appreciation of, and support for the performing arts, while providing quality entertainment to the community. This mission is accomplished with our comprehensive programs. The Wichita Children's Theatre & Dance Center's School of Performing Arts is the only Wichita-area school of performing arts to offer music, theatre, dance, and performance opportunities to a wide age range, from 3 to 19 years of age. Between 800 and 1,000 youth participate in creative dramatics, acting, music, theatre, and dance classes each year. The Main Stage Series presents 45 performances each year offering performance opportunities for ages 8 through adult. The Once Upon a Time Series consists of adult professional actors performing storybook classics for the two to 10 year old. The Heather Muller Black Box Theatre offers performance experience for teenagers and young adults. The Professional Touring Company annually performs in more than 55 Kansas and surrounding area communities.
